Why watch?

Jack Black as Po is firing on all cylinders — his energy in the fight scenes and one-liners carries the whole thing. Director Mike Mitchell stages action sequences that actually pop, especially the final showdown with the villain. Tight 94 minutes with zero filler, where every scene moves you forward.

Who is it for?

Perfect for a weekend with kids — funny, fast, low stakes. If you liked the first Kung Fu Panda or The Lego Movie, same energy. Safe for young kids, no violence or language, just colorful fights and jokes.

If you enjoyed Po jumping between fight scenes and jokes, with a voice cast like Jack Black and Awkwafina keeping things fun, check out Tales from the Darkside or Space Jam: A New Legacy — both mix action with family-friendly humor, just in less obvious ways. They've got that same energy of high-stakes sequences grounded by comedy and heart.

Classic overview

Po is gearing up to become the spiritual leader of his Valley of Peace, but also needs someone to take his place as Dragon Warrior. As such, he will train a new kung fu practitioner for the spot and will encounter a villain called the Chameleon who conjures villains from the past.

Po is done with being the Dragon Warrior and gets a spiritual promotion nobody asked for — he's supposed to teach at the Valley of Peace now. Jack Black voices Po with the same chaotic energy that's carried the franchise through four films, throwing jokes at every swordfight and dramatic moment. Director Mike Mitchell leans into the comedy this time around, so expect less brooding philosophy and more panda goofing off while trying to train a new generation. If you watched the first three Kung Fu Panda films and liked the blend of action beats mixed with genuinely funny dialogue, this one keeps that formula alive.
