Why watch?

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are great again as the paranormal investigators, but the interrogation and exorcism scenes hit harder and less predictably this time around. Michael Chaves really commits to the darkness — there are genuinely unnerving moments, especially when things spiral and the characters lose their footing. If you've followed the whole series, this feels like a natural endpoint, not a cynical setup for sequels.

Who is it for?

Watch this on an evening when you want horror that won't completely destroy you — there are good jump-scares, but it builds tension more than it shocks. If you liked the earlier Conjuring films or Insidious, you're in the right lane. Fair warning: some violence and genuinely gross moments, so not for younger teens or people who get rattled by supernatural horror.

If you liked how Conjuring 4 builds dread through family séances and exorcisms with Wilson and Farmiga's familiar paranormal investigators, check out Insidious: The Red Door or The Nun II — they also lean on established horror universe characters but each stands alone with the same knack for creeping atmosphere and sudden scares. Sinister has that same rhythm of investigating a house's past where the uncovering feels more dangerous than the haunting itself.

Ed and Lorraine Warren are pulled out of retirement to investigate a house that's been terrorized by a demon for fifteen years. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as the paranormal investigators, and Michael Chaves directs them into one of their darkest cases yet — the Smurl family's home becomes a nightmare of strange smells, disembodied voices, and physical attacks that escalate beyond anything they've handled before. This is genuinely unsettling in the way The Exorcist or Sinister gets under your skin, not jump-scare cheap. If you've been following the Conjuring universe or loved the first two films, this one goes deeper into pure dread.
