Why watch?

Djimon Hounsou as a stranded lifeguard stuck on a beach is actually compelling, but the film can't decide if it wants to be horror or thriller and you feel it in every scene. Tommy Wirkola does craft some genuinely uncomfortable moments—stuff you'll think about after—but 84 minutes feel scattered, and some plot choices get weird in the second half. If you like horror films that don't play by the rules, there are moments worth seeing, but don't expect something that'll stick with you long.

Who is it for?

An evening watch when you want something scary but not too serious about it — horror with some self-awareness and fun baked in. If you liked Cabin Fever or similar splatter stuff, this has that same vibe, just shorter and less heavy-handed. Contains violence and blood, so not for young kids.

If you went for Thrash because of its straightforward setup—a group against an elemental threat without bloat—check out Trench or A Dark Song. Both waste no time setting up danger and keep moving. They share that same survival-horror vibe where your characters have to accomplish something before time's up, without reaching for grand themes.

Classic overview

When a Category 5 hurricane decimates a coastal town, the storm surge brings devastation, chaos, and something far more frightening onto shore: hungry sharks.

A coastal town gets hammered by a hurricane, but that's only half the problem — the storm surge brings something deadlier: sharks hunting through flooded streets and destroyed neighborhoods. Phoebe Dynevor and Djimon Hounsou lead a desperate group trying to stay alive as they're trapped between the relentless wind and rain above and predators circling below. Director Tommy Wirkola cranks up the claustrophobia by trapping everyone in rising water with nowhere safe to go. This hits like a collision between The Perfect Storm and a creature feature — if you liked Crawl or Deep Blue Sea, this is the same kind of mess.
