Why watch?

Tony Yang plays a guy who realizes his daughter isn't actually his daughter — and that shift turns everything into something unsettling. Director Shieh Meng-ju builds dread through strange behavior and confusion rather than jump scares, and it works for a while. Second half gets messier, but those early scenes at home with Cecilia Choi nail the creepy-house atmosphere.

Who is it for?

Late-night horror watch when you want something genuinely unsettling — doesn't hold back on violence or shocks. If Hereditary or The Wailing got under your skin, this hits that same nerve. It's got brutal moments and a relentless tone, so skip it if you need something light. This one's for people who want horror that actually lands.

Marebito and Slit have that same unsettling atmosphere where the rules of the world don't quite follow reality, and you're never sure what's actually happening.

Hsu-Chuan, who works at a game company, accidentally brings home a broken clay doll from a haunted house while developing a new horror VR game. Unexpectedly, his pregnant wife, Mu-Hua, a cultural relic restorer, develops an obsession with the doll and relentlessly tries to repair it. As strange things begin to happen in the house, Mu-Hua's condition deteriorates, and Hsu-Chuan, at his wits' end, seeks help from a spiritual medium, Ah-Sheng. Meanwhile, the horrifying secret hidden behind the clay doll begins to surface.

A family's comfortable life unravels when they acquire a mysterious clay doll that seems to have a will of its own. Tony Yang anchors the film as a man trying to protect his loved ones from an increasingly inexplicable threat, while director Shieh Meng-ju builds dread through mundane domestic spaces that gradually feel wrong. The horror doesn't rely on jump scares but on the creeping sense that something in their home is watching and waiting. If you gravitated toward The Wailing or Hereditary, where family dynamics twist into something sinister, this delivers that same suffocating tension.
