Why watch?

Michael Keaton is still the exact same chaotic goofball as he was 35 years ago, except now you see his face way more clearly and he commits harder to every joke. Tim Burton went back to his classic Burton-house vibe instead of trying something new, so every shot feels exactly like you'd expect it to. It's not dark horror, just a light fantasy comedy where a family moves back home and finds out everything there is dead. Fast, no pretense, good cast.

Who is it for?

Friday night when you want something fun and weird that doesn't take any brainpower. If you liked the original Beetlejuice or anything in Tim Burton's wheelhouse, you'll vibe with this. Safe for kids 10+, but adults will get way more out of it — there's a ton of adult humor and callbacks to the first film that'll land harder for them than the kids.

If you liked how Beetlejuice Beetlejuice let its characters actually age and change instead of just retreading old jokes, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and A Dark Song both take familiar supernatural setups and make them about something more personal to the people inside them. Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak does the same thing Burton does here — builds entire worlds out of visual obsession, where ghosts feel like the most honest thing in the room.

Lydia Deetz is back in Winter River, and her life gets even stranger when her teenage daughter Astrid accidentally opens a door to the afterlife. Michael Keaton returns as Beetlejuice, the chaotic ghost who's somehow become part of the family mess, and he's exactly as unhinged as you remember. Tim Burton brings his signature creepy-but-funny energy to three generations of Deetzes trying to survive the supernatural chaos that keeps finding them. This is for you if you loved the original Beetlejuice or want something with the twisted family comedy vibe of Addams Family.
