Why watch?

Marina Aleksandrova as the wife who decides to open the marriage plays it so smart and funny that every scene she's in hits different — you don't mind she's the center of everything. The show doesn't preach about it, instead it shows the actual fallout: jealousy, misunderstandings, people falling apart in ways they didn't expect. Two seasons, but each episode throws a new wrench into their dynamic, so there's no filler and you always want the next one.

Who is it for?

If you like psychological dramas where a relationship falls apart under the weight of secrets and obsession — this is for you. Similar vibe to something like Killing Eve or Fleabag in terms of how dark it gets, but more focused on what's happening inside the characters' heads. Watch in the evening when you have time for something intense, because these two seasons don't let go — there's always something new being revealed and the stakes keep climbing. There's sexual content and quite a bit of psychological tension, so not for kids.

If you connected with Otkrytyy brak because it doesn't shy away from uncomfortable conversations between couples wrestling with real choices, check out Doctors or Serial—both Russian dramas that refuse easy answers and watch relationships crack under the weight of reality. In a similar vein, The Big Bang Theory balances comedy with those sharp moments when adult characters realize what they actually want from their partners and their lives.

Classic overview

Seva and Oksana are over forty. They have three children, a large apartment in the center of Moscow, and both have established careers. An enviable life, they are an exemplary couple. Caught in the midst of minor conflicts, accumulated claims and low self-esteem, Oksana cheats on Seva for the first time in 20 years of marriage and ... confesses this to her husband. Instead of the inevitable drama, Oksana suggests that Seva try... an open marriage. Seva reluctantly agrees, because he himself has been living by double standards for a long time, he has a mistress, his youngest son's teacher. After all, it's a win-win for him. Spouses step into the uncharted territory of an open marriage — hello, freedom!
